Connection Meets Craft: Inside INZU’s Story

3 min read

Here’s to homes that feel something.
To objects with stories.
And to the beautiful, human threads that tie us all together.

Because there’s a moment—if you’re lucky—when you walk into a space and feel it.

It’s the kind of space that quietly tells you:

People gather here. Stories live here. Hands made this.

At Life inTents, we talk a lot about connection being humanity’s greatest currency. And every so often, we meet a brand that doesn’t just believe that—but builds their entire world around it.

Enter: INZU.

Because the best spaces aren’t filled with things.
They’re filled with meaning.

A chair that holds conversations.
A basket that carries stories.
A table that gathers people.

INZU: A Shared Moment of Recognition

Like many meaningful things, INZU didn’t begin with a business plan. It began with a moment.

At the opening of the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda, Casey Rogers and Jack Karuletwa found themselves surrounded by extraordinary craftsmanship—furniture that stopped them in their tracks.

Each piece carried the weight of heritage, the precision of skill, and the unmistakable imprint of human hands. In that moment, admiration evolved into something more: a shared vision to introduce this craftsmanship into new spaces, new homes, new lives.

From Rwanda…to here.

There is also a deeply personal thread woven into INZU’s story.

Co-founder Jack Karuletwa’s journey—from leaving Rwanda as a child, to playing in the NBA, to reconnecting with his roots through his work—adds a dimension that cannot be manufactured.

Sustainability (A Way of Working)

INZU believes sustainability is not a label—it’s a way of working.

  • Materials that are organic or repurposed
  • Processes done by hand, not rushed by machines
  • A commitment to people as much as product

Their philosophy—shared with their partners at MASS.Made—is “Good, Clean, & Fair.”

  • Good for the person who lives with it
  • Clean for the planet we share
  • Fair for the hands that made it

It’s a slower, more intentional approach—one that values care over speed, and longevity over excess. (And you know how much we love intention.)

The Ripple Effect (800 Hands Strong)

If you ask what makes INZU unique and authentic, the answer is disarmingly simple:

The artisans.

Every piece is made by hand—not as a marketing point, but as a lived tradition. A continuation of skills passed down, refined, and honored over time.

This is not about replicating a look.
It’s about preserving a way of making.

And one of the most striking moments in INZU’s journey?

Their first order.

It involved over 800 weavers.

Pause on that.

800 individuals.
800 families.
800 ripple effects across communities.

Partnership, Not Intervention

INZU begins its partnerships with a simple question:

“This is beautiful—can we help share it?”

From there, something powerful unfolds—relationships rooted in respect, not hierarchy.

Over time, these partnerships expand opportunity, visibility, and appreciation for craftsmanship that deserves a global stage.

It’s not about telling a new story.
It’s about amplifying the one that already exists.

From Craft to Connection

Here’s where it all comes full circle.

INZU isn’t just creating products. They’re creating connection between:

  • Makers and homes
  • Tradition and modern living
  • Rwanda and the U.S.

And perhaps most importantly—between people.

Because when you bring a handcrafted piece into your space, you’re not just adding decor.

You’re adding a story.
A person.
A place.

And you feel it.

That first touch—the texture, the weight, the intention—it becomes a bridge.

A Shared Thread

At Life inTents, we believe in crafting spaces that don’t just look beautiful—but hold and create memories.

This is what we call being a memory-ist.

It’s why INZU feels so aligned.

Because when objects carry meaning, spaces become something more than styled.

They become lived.

Life inTents is proud to be connected to INZU—and even more excited to extend that connection to you.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one piece…

One story.

One connection.

And suddenly, your space isn’t just where you are.

It’s where something happens.
